About The Hive Learning Lab

The Hive Learning Lab was created from a simple belief: Children learn best when education is designed around the child—not when the child is expected to fit into a predetermined system.

We are a small, private school serving neurodivergent and neurotypical learners in an individualized, supportive, and inclusive learning environment. At The Hive, students are not defined by a diagnosis, grade level, learning difference, or traditional expectations. We take the time to understand who each child is, how they learn best, what they are capable of, and what they need to continue growing.

Our approach is built on individualized learning, meaningful relationships, hands-on experiences, and whole-child development. Students learn at an appropriate pace and level, with instruction and support tailored to their strengths, needs, interests, and goals. For some students, that may include significant academic or developmental support. For others, it may mean enrichment, greater independence, or opportunities to move beyond traditional grade-level expectations.

We believe inclusion means more than placing different learners in the same space. It means creating a community where every student belongs, every learner is valued, and differences are understood as part of what makes our community stronger.

At The Hive, academic growth matters—but so do confidence, communication, independence, problem-solving, social development, physical well-being, curiosity, and the ability to navigate the world around us. We want students to leave us not only knowing more, but believing more in themselves and what they are capable of accomplishing.

We partner closely with families and, when appropriate, outside professionals and specialists to create a consistent and responsive educational experience. Our small environment allows us to be flexible, attentive, and intentional in ways that can be difficult to achieve in a traditional classroom.

Our vision is to create a different kind of school experience—one where individualized education is not reserved for students who need extra support, but is recognized as a powerful way to educate every child.

We envision a school community where neurodivergent and neurotypical learners learn alongside one another, where strengths are celebrated, differences are respected, and success is measured by meaningful growth rather than comparison.

Introducing our locations

The Hive — Yale
Our original location serves PreK through 3rd grade, welcoming learners across a wide range of abilities, strengths, and learning levels. With individualized instruction and flexible learning spaces, students work at their own level while building academic skills, confidence, independence, and a love of learning.

Life at The Hive Yale extends well beyond the classroom. Students enjoy lots of outdoor time, a large playground, gardening, and caring for our school chickens—creating opportunities for hands-on learning, responsibility, and exploration. And, of course, no description of Yale would be complete without Percy, our resident school cat, who has become part of the Hive family.

At The Hive Yale, learning is active, personal, and connected to the world around us.

The Hive — Cushing
Our Cushing location, #120, serves PreK through 3rd grade, providing an individualized learning environment where students of all learning levels can grow at their own pace. Our large, thoughtfully designed learning space gives children room to explore, learn, create, and move throughout their day.

Cushing features a dream-like reading loft that gives students a cozy space to discover books, build literacy skills, and enjoy quiet moments of imagination. Students also participate in raised-bed gardening activities, bringing hands-on learning into their everyday school experience and creating opportunities to explore science, responsibility, and the natural world.

At The Hive Cushing, we believe young learners thrive when they have space to learn, room to wonder, and opportunities to experience learning firsthand.

Our Cushing Building #114 location serves 4th through 8th grade, giving older learners a space designed to support growing independence, confidence, and academic development. Like all Hive locations, students learn at their individual level rather than being limited by a traditional grade-level model.

The environment is designed to give students the space, flexibility, and support they need to learn in ways that work best for them. Whether a student needs additional academic support, opportunities for enrichment, or a different pace and approach to learning, instruction is tailored to the learner.

At The Hive Cushing #114, we are preparing students not just for the next grade, but for greater independence, real-world skills, and the next chapter of their lives.

The Hive - HUB — Stillwater
Our Stillwater location serves PreK through 12th grade through a flexible model designed to meet the needs of a wide variety of learners and families. Students attend based on their needs and abilities, with hands-on learning, individualized learning experiences, flexibility for therapies and appointments.
Stillwater welcomes all learners, including students with significant and profound support needs. The building includes a dedicated space designed specifically for students with high sensory, medical, mobility, and other complex needs, allowing us to provide a more supportive environment while maintaining our commitment to inclusion.

Our flexible schedule allows families to build an educational experience that works for their individual circumstances—whether they need a more flexible learning schedule, additional support at home, or a learning environment that can accommodate complex needs.

At The Hive Stillwater, we believe flexibility is part of individualized education. There is no single right way to learn, and there is no single right way for a family to build an education that works.

A Note From Our Founder

Hi, I’m Stevphanie Thurber, founder of The Hive Learning Lab.

I didn’t start The Hive because I thought I had all the answers. I started it because I kept seeing children who needed something different—and I believed we could do better.

I believe every child deserves to be known, understood, and given the opportunity to learn in a way that works for them. Sometimes that means more support. Sometimes it means more freedom. Sometimes it simply means having someone willing to slow down, listen, and see the child behind the challenges.

The Hive is a reflection of that belief. It is a place built around relationships, flexibility, individualized learning, and a whole lot of heart.

I’m incredibly proud of what The Hive has become, but I’m most proud of the children and families who have trusted us along the way. We’re still learning, growing, and figuring things out—just like our students.
